If there’s one thing Las Vegas has plenty of, it’s sunshine. As late spring transitions into summer, the weather only gets hotter here, too. Out in the desert we expect the heat and the dry air, of course. When you live in this part of Nevada, you have no choice but to get used to it! One dry thing that you shouldn’t have to get used to, though, is dry feet. Dry skin on your feet is uncomfortable and can make you vulnerable to other problems in the long run. Moisturizing your feet keeps your skin smooth and healthy, even when everything else around you is dry and dusty.
Feet dry out for a variety of reasons—some health related, some from the environment. Treating dry feet tends to involve the same steps, however, no matter the root source. Built-up dead skin needs to be removed and your feet moisturized. Here are a few ways you can do that:
Sugar Scrub – Scrub your feet with a sugar and oil mixture. This helps remove dry, excess skin. Rinse off your feet with cool water afterward.
Honey Foot Soak – Honey is an excellent natural softener and moisturizer. Mix a cup of honey in a gallon of warm water. Soak your feet for ten to fifteen minutes.
Vaseline – Rub Vaseline directly into your skin, focusing the most on the driest areas. Put on a pair of clean socks immediately afterward to lock in the moisture.
Oil Mixtures – Try applying vegetable oil directly to your skin, or mixing a spoonful of olive oil with lemon or lavender to massage into your feet.
Make sure you stay hydrated throughout the day, too, since that has a direct effect on the dryness of your skin. If you do have an underlying health issue, you’ll most likely need to have that cared for to truly treat your dry feet. This is especially true if you have diabetes—don’t try to take care of skin problems yourself unless our specialists have helped you first.
