Foot Care Rules for 2016

Despite the fact that it always takes 365 days to get here, sometimes it can really feel like the New Year has snuck up on you. 2015 is ending and 2016 is just around the corner. It’s time for the annual traditions of thinking over this past year and making resolutions for the new one! While you can make resolutions about anything, there are popular trends—particularly for improving health.

One area of health improvement that people forget about is their foot care. This year, consider making special resolutions to follow through with your regular foot care “rules” to keep your lower limbs at their best through 2016.

Basic foot care can mean the difference between pain or contributing to injuries and investing in your foot health for years to come. Your feet are designed to carry you throughout your life. The pressures and strain of activities and day-to-day actions can wear them down. Daily foot care helps alleviate some of these stressors and rejuvenate your lower limbs.

Here are a few good foot care “rules” to live by so your lower limbs stay at their best in 2016:

Put health above style – Shoes and socks have a huge influence on foot health. Stick to styles that are comfortable, supportive, and appropriately fitted so they don’t increase your risk for             injuries or infections.

Wash and dry – Clean feet are happy feet! Wash your feet every day and make sure they dry completely. Damp, dirty feet are more prone to infections and fungus.

Check for changes – Inspect your feet for abnormal changes that can signal a problem. This is especially important for people with diabetes or other conditions that compromise the immune      system.

Don’t blow off problems – If you’re in pain or you notice a change, don’t ignore it! Preventable problems can turn serious when they’re ignored.

Pain and other issues are often simple problems and relatively easy to handle if you take care of them right away. When you’re making resolutions to improve your health in 2016, don’t forget to include your feet in your commitment. It’s not hard to take care of your lower limbs.
